VINTAGE
The 2021 growing season was blessed by late winter rains that replenished our soil moisture as the vines emerged from dormancy. A cold spring led to a slower start for the vines, but we avoided any frost danger. Summer growing conditions were exceptional, with consistent weather and blue skies ushering in a Goldilocks summer that was not too hot and not too cold. We are thrilled with the quality of the grapes from the outstanding 2021 vintage.
WINEMAKING
Our Estate Black Glass Vineyard Zinfandel takes its name from the obsidian that surfaces in the vineyard after each rain. In the winery we treat our Zinfandel as gently as our Sangiovese. We ferment in open top tanks and gently punch down twice each day. When the fermentation is complete the wine matures in neutral French oak barrels.
TASTING NOTES
Bright blueberry and black raspberry aromas, with hints of vanilla and clove. Vivacious and complex with a delightfully charming finish. Pair with a salad of watermelon, feta and mint, an antipasto plate, or a pizza topped with cremini mushrooms.
