VINTAGE
The 2021 vintage will be remembered for low yields with intensely-flavored, small-sized berries and a smooth and uneventful harvest season. The season started off with very little rain, leading to the 2nd year of drought conditions.  While concerning in the long term, the drought of 2021 resulted in a more natural load on the vines, requiring less pruning and dropping of fruit. The resulting grapes are packed full of flavor.  Truly, one of the great vintages.

WINEMAKING
The grapes for this wine hail from a neighboring vineyard, lovingly owned by the Collins Family. These weathered vines, rooted in a cobbly swale since 1923, bear witness to decades of viticultural history. Harvested by hand, the grapes are gently destemmed without crushing, honoring the integrity of each precious cluster. The subsequent journey unfolds in open-top fermenters, where the grapes undergo a 21-day fermentation period with multiple punchdowns per day. This hands-on approach ensures a nuanced extraction of flavors. The wine, born from this meticulous process, then embarks on a 20-month maturation journey in predominantly Neutral Oak barrels. Each stage of this winemaking saga imparts character and complexity to the final creation, a true reflection of the heritage and commitment embedded in every bottle.

TASTING NOTES

On the palate, brace yourself for the vibrant spectacle of raspberry, elegantly embraced by notes of spice, clove, and dark chocolate. It's like a soft, weighted blanket delicately caressing your taste buds. This old-vine Zinfandel doesn't just boast boldness; it stands as a well-structured masterpiece. Get ready for a sip that delivers a grand performance in every glass.
