VINTAGE
The 2021 vintage will be remembered for low yields with intensely-flavored, small-sized berries and a smooth and uneventful harvest season. The season started off with very little rain, leading to the 2nd year of drought conditions. While concerning in the long term, the drought of 2021 resulted in a more natural load on the vines, requiring less pruning and dropping of fruit. The resulting grapes are packed full of flavor. Truly, one of the great vintages.
WINEMAKING
The fruit for this wine was grown in the Oak Knoll District, just north of the city of Napa, where the temperatures are notably cooler than at our Estate St. Helena Vineyard. The moderate weather helps heighten the rich aromatics of Pinot Grigio, while retaining a bright acidity that provides a clean and refreshing finish. The very low dosage is a testimate to its beautiful natural acidity and bright fruit. This is the best Sparkling Pinot Grigio we've ever made!
TASTING NOTES
It is simply a stunning wine with extremely expressive aromas of tangerine, guava, grapefruit peel, and lemon. The palate confirms the aromas. The balanced and near perfect acidity in the mid-palate leads to a long finish that makes you long for more. This wine will not disappoint! Although it will age beautifully for the next 10+ years, you’ll need to decide yourself when to break out the Caviar and enjoy!
PAIRINGS
This gem is incredibly tasty on its own. However, fresh Hog Island Osyters with a Lemon Mignonette pairs beautifuly.
