The 2022 John’s Promise is a distinctive blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Aglianico, crafted in honor of the promise John made to his wife, Mrs. Benish, to always strive for wines that reflect both excellence and a true sense of place.

VINTAGE​
The 2022 vintage is being hailed as “the tale of two harvests,” a testament to the year’s distinctive conditions and remarkable outcomes. Napa Valley grape growers, accustomed to adapting to climate variability, faced unprecedented challenges, including a five-day heatwave in September followed abruptly by rain that temporarily halted the harvest. The typically measured pace between white and red wine harvests vanished, replaced by a whirlwind of activity until the rain provided a brief respite. Grapes that remained on the vine through October benefited from mild, temperate weather, achieving optimal ripeness. The red wines from 2022 exhibit exceptional structure, deep color, opulent tannins, and exquisite fruit-driven aromatics. 

WINEMAKING
The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented separately in small open-top fermentors to preserve the unique character of each varietal. After fermentation, the wine was aged for 20 months in a combination of new and neutral French oak barrels, adding structure and depth to the blend.

TASTING NOTES
This vintage of John’s Promise is a bold yet graceful expression, marrying the strength of Cabernet Sauvignon with the earthy complexity of Aglianico. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry, and blackcurrant are enriched with hints of leather, tobacco, and violets. On the palate, it reveals flavors of ripe plum, cocoa, and spice, framed by firm tannins and a long, layered finish. With its harmonious balance of fruit, acidity, and tannin, this wine is ready to enjoy now or can be cellared for further development over the next decade.

Pair John’s Promise with dishes that match its richness and intensity. It is a superb complement to grilled ribeye steaks, osso buco, or braised short ribs. The wine’s savory depth also shines alongside wild mushroom ragù or hearty stews, elevating both the meal and the wine experience.
